Obituary of Claire Carpenter

Claire P. Carpenter, 88, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018, at home with her loving family by her side. Claire was born in Syracuse on March 15, 1929, the daughter of the late S.J. and Ethel Richardson Palmer. Claire started a volunteer group to form the school library at the former E.S.Powlesland Elementary School and ran book fairs and wrote grants to get money to run and develop the library. Later she began working at Corcoran High School in the Library for many years until she retired. After retirement she and her husband were very active volunteers for the Dream Center at Blodgett School. She loved movies, reading and spending time with her family at home and at the family camp in Fair Haven, NY. She was predeceased by her loving husband Richard Carpenter; her brothers: Robert M., Richard, and Gordon Palmer. Survived by her sons, R. Curtis "Curt" and Robert Palmer Carpenter, both of Syracuse; daughters, Elizabeth (Tim) Shatraw of Baldwinsville and Jennifer (Tom) Gallagher of Fabius; six grandchildren: Hannah, Carl, Rosemary, Stephen, Alison and Daniel; two great-grandchildren, Lily and Luke; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Thursday, January 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at Abundant Life Christian Center, 7000 All Nations Blvd, East Syracuse, NY 13057.
