Obituary of Thomas J. Smith

Thomas "Tom" J. Smith, 73, of Syracuse, NY, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at Crouse Hospital. Born in Syracuse, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Catherine (Wicks) Smith. Tom worked as a painter with Union Local 31 in Syracuse, retiring from the City of Syracuse in 2004. He married his loving wife, the former Theresa Becker, in 1986. In his free time, Tom enjoyed cooking and making homemade wine and sausage. In addition to his wife, Theresa, Tom is survived by his daughters, Cheryl (Dan Carroll) Hassett and Nicole Smith; sons, Thomas and Christopher Smith; grandchildren, Kristen and Thomas Smith, Matthew and Samantha Hassett, Christopher, Joseph and Sophia Montgomery, and Christian Sullivan; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Theodore and George Smith; sisters, Chickie (Paul) Procopio, Kathy Cayen and Suzanne Lee; sister-in-law, Peggy Becker; and a host of nieces and nephews, all of Syracuse. He was predeceased by his siblings, Lloyd, Donald, Frederick, Francis, Collin, James, Shirley and Maureen. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13205. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at the funeral home, with Rev. Frederick Mannara officiating. Burial will follow in Onondaga Valley Cemetery, Syracuse.
