Obituary of Brett A. Smith

Brett A. Smith, 57, of Jamesville, and former resident of LaFayette, died Sunday, November 19, 2017, at home with his wife by his side. Brett was a man of many talents, from farmworker to master carpenter. He worked at Byrne Dairy in Syracuse for twenty years before taking over his uncle's roofing company. Brett owned and operated Fred Smith Roofing for eleven years. He also was employed by the United States Postal Service, working as a mail carrier in Cazenovia, NY, until he was diagnosed with brain cancer. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Laurie (German) Smith; daughter, Heather Smith of North Syracuse; sons, Brett "Kevin" Smith of Apulia and Chad Smith of Mississippi; grandchildren, Emalee Humphrey, Tyler Smith and Noah Brown; sisters, Wendy VanRiper and Donna Smith; brothers, Scott Smith, Michael Smith and Donald "Babe" Smith; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be Tuesday, November 21, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13205. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with Father Christopher Ballard officiating. Burial will follow in Onondaga Valley Cemetery, Syracuse.
