Obituary of Jean Gilmer

Jean Gilmer, 94, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at St. Camillus Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Sydney, Australia, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Ruby Douglas Vassie. Jean attended art college in Australia and had a lifelong passion for painting. She moved to the US in the 1940s as a war bride after meeting the love of her life and husband of 70 years, the late Robert Gilmer. Jean was a member of the Baldwinsville Art Guild, War Brides Association, and Baldwinsville Presbyterian Church. Jean is survived by her son, Keith (Dorothy) Gilmer of Cicero; grandchildren, Kaitilin Gilmer of Cicero and Janelle Gilmer of Central Square; great-grandson, Mark Cerul; niece, Laurie (Tony) Rosato of Cortland; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Jean was predeceased by her sister, Helen Anderson; and two young children, Douglas and Pamela. Calling hours will be Monday, May 8, 2017, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13205.
