Obituary of Gloria S. Joy

Gloria S. Joy, 96, life resident of Syracuse, New York, passed away at Iroquois Nursing Home on Thursday, November 22, 2018. Born in Syracuse, she was the daughter of the late Walter Guy and Mabel Bacon Stuart. She was a graduate of Onondaga Valley Academy and a 1945 graduate of St. Joseph’s School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at various hospitals and nursing homes in Syracuse. Gloria was a member of Valley VIP’s, a longtime member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and a current member of The Church of The Holy Trinity. Gloria loved her church and enjoyed playing cards with her friends and going to the Onondaga Senior Center. 

Gloria is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Jay) Joy, Christine Schmidt and Teresa (Scott) Joy; three grandchildren, Richard, Christopher and Bradley; five great-granddaughters, Kayla, Sophie, Morgan, Sydney and Samantha; one niece, one nephew and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis Joy in 2003.

A Memorial service will be held Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in The Church of the Holy Trinity, 4876 Onondaga Road, Syracuse, New York 13215. Burial will be private in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
