Obituary of Beverly J. Dever

Beverly Sherman Dever, 89 of Marcellus died Thursday, February 7, 2019 after a short illness. She was pre-deceased by her parents Paul and Isabelle (Coyne) Sherman, husband Oliver and her two brothers, Paul of Delmar, NY and Carl of Clayton, NY.

 

Beverly was born in Syracuse and graduated from Central High School.  In her early childhood, she traveled the Erie Canal with her grandfather and father who were captains of the Oswego River Towing Line.

 

Bev worked in Washington, D.C. That was where she met her late husband and returned to Syracuse to start their family.

 

Her life was her family.  She enjoyed camping and traveling cross county throughout the years.  She was a past member of the Order of Eastern Star. 

 

She is survived by three children, David (Cindy) Lawrence -Dever of New Mexico, Doug Dever (Mary Varik) of Marcellus, and Phil Dever of Georgia and one sister-in-law Barbara Sherman of Clayton, NY.  She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and friends.  She was also anticipating the births of one great granddaughter and one great great granddaughter.  

 

She cherished all of the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and gave freely of her time and treasure.

She lived in the Valley for many years.  Hers was a life well lived.  She enjoyed going to the gym and swimming with her wonderful friends. 

 

Words cannot express the family's deep appreciation to all of the staff at Loretto RCHF for the kindness, comfort, and compassion shown to Bev and to her family. 

 

Family and friends may call from 4 pm to 7 pm Thursday at Ballweg and Lunsford Funeral Home. 

Services Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.  Burial in Valley Cemetery to follow.
