Obituary of John F. Hotaling

John F. Hotaling, 78, of Syracuse, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Iroquois Nursing Home.  

With the exception of his military service, John spent his entire career at New Process Gear.  He served on active duty in the U.S. Army in the late 1960’s and later in the U.S. Army Reserve’s 403rd Civil Affairs Battalion, from which he retired in 2002.  John was a veteran of the Gulf War and deployed as part of a peacekeeping operation in Bosnia.  He also volunteered with the American Red Cross and was a member of the Valley Men’s Club.  John was very active and participated in several years of the National Veterans Golden Age Games and won medals in running, bicycling, and swimming.  

John is survived by his wife Judy (Howell) of 53 years, children Joseph, Patrick, and Jennifer,  sister Mary (Browder) of Arkansas, and grandchildren Lindsay, Yasemin, Ian, and Ryan.  

There are no services planned at this time. A spring burial at Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery will be announced, pending COVID restrictions. Online condolences for John’s family may be left on the funeral home website’s Tribute Wall.
