Obituary of Richard Earl Vastag, Sr.

Richard Earl Vastag, 74, of Syracuse, passed away on March 22, 2021. He was born in Syracuse in 1947 to the late Stephen and Doris (Dean) Vastag. Richard started working at a young age in order to help his mother. After serving in the United States Navy, he went on to become a truck driver for many years.

Richard was well known in his community and got along with everyone. He was very social and enjoyed talking with his neighbors. He liked to kick back and relax, and even play some computer games.

He is predeceased by his wife, Irene (Morgan) Vastag, 2017; and sister, Mary Ann (Vastag) Sanford, 2019. Surviving are: his children, Richard Vastag, Jr., Susan (James Evans) Vastag; grandchildren, Jonathan Ramsden and Alexis Vastag; half sisters, Nancy Weltin, Pat Buckalew, both of Ohio; aunt, Shirley Frazier; and nephew, Michael Vastag.
