Obituary of Sharon L. Blackett (Robinson)

Sharon L. Blackett (Robinson), 67, passed away Friday, April, 2, 2021, at her home in LaFayette, NY, surrounded by family. Sharon was born on April 29, 1953 in Brooklyn, NY, to Edward and Bertha Robinson.  She was the youngest of five siblings.

            In 1968, Sharon met David A. Blackett on the Staten Island Ferry, and they were married on January 11, 1969. They eventually moved to Queens, NY where they raised their three children before moving the family to LaFayette, NY. For the next 30 years Sharon enjoyed working with adults with disabilities at ARC of Onondaga.

            Sharon loved her family including her beloved dogs. She had a warm heart and was happy to welcome new people and new pets into her life.  She enjoyed her many friends from her church community and the LaFayette Seniors Group. Sharon was an avid reader and loved patronizing local libraries.

            Beside her devoted husband of 53 years and her rescue dog, Maggie, she leaves her loving children: Christina Werbeck of Rome, NY, Denise Blackett of St. Petersburg, FL, and David (Hillary) Blackett of Tully, NY; sister Judi Varisco of Long Island, NY; seven nieces and nephews: Karlene (Ritchie) Reilly, Karl (Odessa) Alm, Kelley (Jamie) Chattin, Joe Mortilla, Dena (Peter) Auricchio, James (Stephanie) Giel, and Donna (Joe) Rygiel; as well as several cousins, grand nieces and nephews, and many friends.  She was predeceased by: her parents, her brother, Karl Alm, and her 2 sisters, Doris Andrews and Linda Giel.

            A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 1, 2021, in St. Paul’s Methodist Church, 2200 Valley Drive, Syracuse, NY 13207. Arrangements have been made by Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, LaFayette, NY.
