Obituary of Steve L. Townsend

Steve L Townsend, of the Valley, passed away quietly after a brief illness on July 28, 2021. He was born in Auburn on April 20, 1950 to Carl and Mary Townsend. He was the oldest of seven children. Steve retired from Onondaga County Department of Corrections in 2003 after many years as a Senior Corrections Officer. He then became the Operations Manager for Spectrum Security and Security Director for Buffalo Protection & Investigation. Steve was a Security Guard Instructor for NYS Department of Criminal Justice Services for 35 years. He was a man who enjoyed sharing his knowledge and expertise with everyone. His main hobby allowed him to share, advise, guide and just enjoy the talk with anyone who came his way for purchases. He was a man who was respected and appreciated by many for his knowledge, strength and professionalism.  He will be missed by all who knew him. Steve was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church.

He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Cindy and a brother, Mark.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years Jeanne (Webster), his four children: Elizabeth (Anthony) Callow, Amy (Joshua) Branch, Jamie Townsend and Jenna Townsend; his grandchildren: Austin, Andrew, Brooke, Ella and Elliot; brothers Carl and David and sisters, Darlene and Linda, and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, August 04, 2021 from 5-8p at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina St. Syracuse, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, August 05, 2021 at Our Lady of Hope (St James) 4845 S. Salina St.   Syracuse, NY. Burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
