Obituary of Mary Catherine Monty

Mary Catherine (Unz) Monty, 72, passed away on August 18 at home. She was born March 24, 1949 in Syracuse, NY to Frederick and Mary Jane Unz.

After graduating from Bishop Ludden HS in 1967, she earned her nursing degree from OCC and also attended SU. Cathy worked at Community General Hospital for many years as an NP. Many would say that Cathy loved animals more than people. Her favorite pastime truly was being with her family. She enjoyed going out and listening to local bands, but her favorite song was Hotel California.

She is predeceased by her husband of 19 years, William “Bill” Monty (2001). Cathy is survived by: daughters, Heather (Michael Iandiorio) Monty, Jillian (Michael) Scheer, Jacquelyn (Lee Collier) Monty, Cheryl (Jason) Bowes; grandchildren, Anthony Iandiorio, Samantha, Michael, and Jonathan Scheer, Jayce Collier-Monty, Jason and Robert Bowes; four nieces; and one brother, Chris (Sue) Unz.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday August 26 from 11 am to 1 pm, at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Syracuse. A funeral service will follow at 1 pm.
