Obituary of Gary E. Boisseau Sr.

Gary E. Boisseau, Sr., 87, of Jamesville (Southwood), passed away at home on Sunday, May 8, 2022, with his loving family by his side.  A life resident of Syracuse, New York, he was the son of the late George and Mildred (Young) Boisseau. He was a graduate of LaFayette High School and a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church in the Valley. He served our great nation with honor as a soldier for 8 years with the U.S. Army Reserves. He retired from Sears after 35 years. Gary was a 52-year member of the Southwood Volunteer Fire Department and held many positions within the organization including AEMT, Chief, President, and Captain of the Fire Police.  He was a member of the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team, Jamesville Boy Scout Troop 118, Southwood Boy Scout Troop 518, Southwood Fire Department Explorer Post, and was a Life Member of the American Legion Valley Post 1468.  He enjoyed volunteering at the Onondaga Hill Senior Center and giving dog treats to his furry friends during his daily walk around southwood. Gary and Karen loved to travel and covered New York in a pop-up camper. They took many trips from Maine to Georgia, and to the Sight and Sound Theatre with their Senior Center group of friends. Gary is survived by two sons; Gary Jr. (Kim) of Clifton Springs, New York, and Thomas (Sandi) of Plattsburg, New York; one daughter, Linda (Michael) Russell of Jordan, New York; 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Karen Ann (Schwenn); infant daughters Maria and Mary; and his sister, Joan Knapp. A calling hour will be held on Monday, May 16th from 11 AM to 12 PM at Our Lady of Hope Church, 4845 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, with a memorial Mass to immediately follow at the church at 12 PM. Burial will be in the family plot in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Onondaga Senior Center, 4834 Velasko Road, Syracuse, New York 13215, or to a charity of one’s choice. Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home has care of arrangements.
