Obituary of Richard Emerson Bassett, Sr.

Richard E. Bassett, Sr., 90, of Preble, passed away on July 6, 2022. He was born in Albany, NY to the late Lyle and Mae (Scheller) Bassett. After graduating high school, he went into the Air Force and defended our country in the Korean War. Richard worked for several years as a Foreman for the Onondaga County DOT. After retirement Richard enjoyed relaxing with a PBR, and cooking for family holidays and gatherings.

Along with his parents, Richard is predeceased by one son, Kevin Ryan (May 2022). He is survived by: his wife, Betty (Walters) Bassett; children: Betty Lou Fire, Mark (Elaine) Fire, David (Denise) Fire, Danny Fire, Tracy Ryan (Terry) Underwood, Richard (Michelle) Bassett, Jr., and Michelle Bassett; siblings: Lyle, Francis, June, and Marlene Bassett, as well as Dolores Coleman. He also leaves behind several grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
