Obituary of Merritt R. Chaffee

Merritt R. Chaffee, age 81, of Syracuse, New York died Friday, November 1, 2002 at home. Merritt was born April 19, 1921 in Sryacuse, New York the son of Paul M and Maude (Greer) Chaffee. A graduate of Onondaga Valley Academy, he went on to proudly serve in the Army during World War II. He retired from New York Telephone in 1982 after 41 years. He was a member and elder of Onondaga Valley Presbyterian Church for over 65 years during which he served as Clerk of Session for about 18 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 1468 and Telephone Pioneers of America. A grandson died in 1981. Mr. Chaffee is survived by his wife of 41 years, Violet A. (Day) Chaffee; three daughters, Dawn Lennox of Liverpool, New York, Marilyn Johnson of Kennedy, New York and Diane Hakes of Jamesville, New York; one brother, Raymond Chaffee of Oceanside, California; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral: Monday, November 4, 2002, 11:00 a.m. in Onondaga Valley Presbyterian Church, 275 W. Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse, New York with Rev. Beth Dubois officiating.
