Obituary of Gregory R. Tarbell

Gregory R. "Banini" Tarbell, 57, of the Onondaga Nation, died Monday, January 22, 2018, at Upstate University Hospital after a long illness. He is survived by his daughter, Jessica Tarbell (Chris) and Jessica's mother, Trina Skeele; his mother, Charlotte Tarbell; siblings, Eli (Gretchen), Rick (Verda), Connie, Bob (Sherry), Fred, and Wanda Tarbell; his best and loyal friend, Jim Booth; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Lazore "Spin" Tarbell. Greg attended LaFayette High School where he played football and basketball, Cobleskill Community College and Syracuse University where he played lacrosse. He was an All-County Football and Basketball All American in high school and a two time All American while at Cobleskill and SU. He was named MVP of North/South Senior All Star Game in 1982 and was a LaFayette High School 1st Class inductee in 2016. Greg was inducted into the Akwesasne Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2010, NJCAA Men's Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2011 and the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2011. He was one of the original members of the Iroquois National Team. He played in London, England in the World Games. Greg was known in the Lacrosse world as being a great player and one of the hardest shots around. Greg is a retired ironworker out of Local 60. He loved to play golf, attend sporting games and hang with his daughter, Jessica. He is greatly loved and will be missed by many. Calling hours will be held at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 2584 Field Lane, LaFayette, NY, 13084, on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Thursday, January 25, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A service will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in the Longhouse.
