Obituary of Carl M. Tarver

Carl M. Tarver, age 78, of St. Camillus Health & Rehabilitation Center, Syracuse, New York and formerly of 503 Valley Drive, Syracuse, died Wednesday, February 13, 2002 at Community General Hospital, Onondaga Hill, New York. Mr. Tarver was born July 22, 1923 in Augusta, Georgia, the son of Paul M. and Minnie Pearl (Stevenson) Tarver. He was the husband of the former Shirley Houser who passed away November 26, 2000. He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He retired from General Electric in 1989 after 38 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 40/8 and a member of Tom Dooley Choraliers. He was a former member of past commander of American Legion Post 41 and was a member of its chorus. They were national champions for 12 years and they were the first chorus group ever televised appearing on Ed Sullivan's show "The Toast of the Town" in 1951. Mr. Tarver was the last survivor of the chorus. He is survived by one daughter: Cheryl L. Yelle from Mendon, New York; three sons: Craig Tarver from Pleasanton, California, Terry Tarver from East Rochester, New York and Wayne Tarver from Syracuse, New York; one sister: Lillian Fulcher from Augusta, Georgia; one brother: James Tarver also from Augusta, Georgia and 10 grandchildren. Funeral: Monday, February 18, 2002, 11:00 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse with Rev. Don Moody officiating. Burial: Onondaga Valley Cemetery, 2500 Valley Drive, Syracuse. Calling Hours: Sunday, February 17, 2002, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
