Deloris Cleaveland

Obituary of Deloris Maxine Cleaveland

Deloris "Max" Cleaveland, while surrounded by family and friends, died on Friday, December 8, 2017, at Loretto Health & Rehab, Syracuse, New York. She was preceded in death by her husband David Alan Cleaveland and leaves five children: Perry (Caren) Cleaveland, Sheila Lester, Sherry (Kim) Cleaveland Klink, Sandra (Albert) Cleaveland and David (Ronna) Cleaveland Klionsky, as well as eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Max was born in Ohio, on June 6, 1932, the eighth child of nine of John and Mayme Garrett. She graduated from New Washington High School and went on to study nursing in vocational medical training. After moving to Syracuse in 1962, Max practiced nursing at St. Joseph's Hospital and later provided loving care to a small local nursing home as well as private home service. Max ultimately retired from Loretto Health & Rehab working skilled nursing units and later as Nursing Supervisor at Loretto's Heritage facility. Max became a member of Erwin Methodist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Max and her husband Dave were known for their love of Bluegrass music and the people associated with enjoying and performing the music. She found joy in attending festivals with her family and forming long-lasting friendships. Known for her compassion, decisive actions, intelligence, love of people, sense of humor, and her wonderful (crooked) smile (as she was wont to say), Max will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Funeral services are private. Donations can be made to CNYSPCA, 5878 E. Molloy Road, Syracuse, NY 13211. Please visit the online memorial at www.ballweg-lunsford.com
