Obituary of Ruth Marie Pierce

Ruth Marie (Warner) Pierce left our world September 29, 2022 in the presence of family and her beloved dog Missy. Born September 6, 1924 to Lewis Olin Warner and Esther A Friar Warner, Ruth was a child of the Great Depression, an experience that left her with toughness and the grit to persevere no matter what challenges life presented.

     Ruth valued education as an essential foundation of life. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher for Jamesville-Dewitt until her retirement at age 70, and touched hundreds of young lives during her career.

     Ruth’s talents and hobbies are too numerous to list, but include home construction, gardening, reading, and baking. All who knew her will remember her delicious rolls and jam. She loved animals, rescued many, and always made sure her bird feeders were full.
     Ruth supported many charities, especially during the holidays, stating she could not enjoy a festive meal knowing others were hungry. All were welcome at her table.

     Family was the center of Ruth’s life. She is survived by 5 loving children, Mark (Carol), Joan (Patrick Capp), Karen (Jim) Bliss, Cindy Watkins, and Dave (Becky), 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, a sister Helen Shute and a brother Richard L Warner. Her loss is painful, but her strength and spirit lives on in each of us.

     Calling hours will be on Thursday, October 13, from 12:00-2:00 at Columbian Presbyterian Church in Lafayette, with service immediately following.
