My name is Cynthia Shepard and I worked at Upstate from 1975 to 1982 with Dr. Rohner in Weiskotten Hall as part of the Histology team before going to school for Cytology and leaving for Mount Sinai Hospital in NY.....Dr. Rohner was affectionately known as R squared to faculty and students alike. His Humanistics lectures to the 2nd year medical students were witty and wise....he taught compassion and instilled confidence in all who were fortunate enough to walk the halls of learning with him...I will never forget him.

I was saddened to hear of Bob's passing last week. As neighbors I will remember Bert and Bob on their daily walks. Bert was a religious education teacher for my girls and a warm caring person. When my youngest daughter was born a pink doll was placed in our mailbox, when my husband has a heart attack a healthy heart cookbook was another gift from them. We would enjoy hearing of their winter trips to the Carolina's.
After Berts passing I would see Bob in my walks as he worked on his yard, taking his little red car to Aldi's shopping but especially at St .Joseph's Church each week at mass. I'm sure he found strength in his faith. Just two weeks ago entering Church as I tried to hold the door for him he said"oh no, after you"with that smile and twinkle in his eye.
Take comfort in knowing they are together again on their morning walks again in heaven,Bob with his walking stick and Bert right by his side.
Blessings to the family.

Bob was a wonderful man..he will be missed. We will always remember how kind he was. Back when our girls were in school, Bob and Bertie would go for their walks. They would always stop and talk to Lauri and Becky as they waited for the school bus. Later on in life we came to know him better. Such a kind and considerate neighbor. God Bless Meg for being there for him .

Thank you for your kind words. I've been trying to post a photo I have of Bob & Bert's wedding, in which your father was an usher, somehow I'm having trouble. Your parent's look beautiful and I remember Bob talking about them often. Thanks so much for sharing this picture.

Dr. Rohner, Bob, was the best man for my father, Werner Woeger, at my parent's wedding. My mother, Hope, was wearing the wedding dress she borrowed from Bert. While Bob and my father were dear friends they appreciated from afar and exchanged few communications over their later years. My father loved Bob. I was an intermediary for them through several e-mail exchanges. My experience is that Dr. Rohner was a kind, loving and generous soul. I pray that he rests in peace and is happily reunited with his beloved wife, Bert. Blessings to his family.

thinking back to day with Nanny and Butch. Thanksgiving days with them. We had some good times. We haven't seen each other in years, I understood when you said you weren't a people person. Enjoyed our email connection we had for these later years. Bob, you are with your Bertha now, so know you are happy. Give all in heaven a big hug from us.
As you used to call me, Your Cuz..Joyce Hoyt.

My Brother-in-law - Dr. Robert Rohner - was a wonderful and kind gentleman. He was married to my sister, Bertha Anne (Gollegly), who passed away 14 years ago. She was the love of his life. Dr. Rohner was a humble man - but one of great intelligence, wisdom, and touched so many peoples lives, especially through his teaching. He taught Pathology at Upstate Medical School at SU for many years. To take his mind off his work, he loved getting on his old tractor and drive the many acres of land he had in Tully. He had 18 nieces and nephews, one niece, Margaret (Meg) K. Pearson and her husband, Jim, were very loving care-givers and friends to their "Uncle Bob". Bob also had some very devoted and caring neighbors, I thank them for looking in and visiting with Bob. He is now at peace and with his beloved - Bertie.
God Love you Bob ~~~ Kate (Gollegly) and George Candreva - Wexford, PA

My neighbor my friend. I am so saddened to hear that your gone.
Each day forward I will feel that emptiness as I pass your house, or while I'm cooking... who will eat my food now!
Your friendship will never be forgotten. You were a blessing in my life and a treasured gift from God.
Rest in peace.

Dear Bertha,
I want to extend sincerest sympathy on Bob's passing. He was a true caring gentleman in addition to the outstanding physician we knew at Upstate. Not many would think a pathologist would care so much for his patients but he did and through his approach he was able to show numerous young doctors the true meaning of what being a physician is. His legacy lives on through all of his students and yes, colleagues too. It was a privilege to know him and work with him. Even though I haven't seen him in recent years he will be missed.
Sincerely, Bob Bornhurst
