Obituary of Gerlono Raheem Booker-Thompson

Mr. Gerlono Raheem Booker-Thompson, 46, of Syracuse, laid down his burdens and went home to be with the Lord, early Sunday morning, March 5, 2023. Under the watchful eyes of his husband, family, and friends, Gerlono fought bravely against a brief illness.

A lifelong resident of Syracuse, Gerlano was born in December 1976- the baby of five siblings, to the late Mrs. Annie Mae Thompson. After graduating from Corcoran High School, he became a factory worker, until he abruptly quit his job to become a caregiver for his ailing mother. He devoted his life to her for 15 years until she succumbed to her illness.

Gerlono "Cubbie" was an animal lover and had a passion for traveling. He would vacation to Florida each year, and enjoyed the view the beaches offered. He loved to listen to music of various genres and was known to host gatherings for family and friends. "Cubbie" was a compassionate and loving man, with a wonderful sense of humor. 

Along with his loving mother, Annie Mae (Williams) Thompson, Gerlono is predeceased by: his mother in law, Nyoka Williams of Syracuse; his furry companion, Gooby; and his best friend, Willie Jones. Gerlono leaves to mourn his passing: his loving husband and compaion of 20 years, Emilio Thompson-Booker; brothers, Kenneth McMillian, Sr., of Syracuse, and Mack Hickey II; sisters, Joeann McBride, Brenda, Shameka, and Patience Thompson, all of Syracuse; step daughter, Nyoka Booker of Syracuse; God-daughters, Serena and Serenity; and Nykera Cosby; special niece Tareya Thomson; as well as a host of loving, caring, and dear friends.

An hour of calling will be held on Saturday, March 11 from 9 am to 10 am, at Ballweg and Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina St., Syracuse. A memorial service will begin at 10 am. In honor of Gerlono, please wear red and black.
