Obituary of Vincent Paul Coon, Sr.

Vincent P. Coon, Sr., 70, of Marcellus, passed away suddenly on Saturday March 11, 2023. He was born in Syracuse to the late Lloyd and Rita (Nelepovitz) Coon.

He had a long career in the field of radiologic studies. Vince was currently employed by FCMG, Camillus, part time; and previously employed at University Hospital where he retired as an Interventional Radiology Supervisor in 2007. Prior to that he was employed by Auburn Memorial Hospital and was also a Chief Technologist at Clifton-Fine Hospital in Star Lake.

Vince was very proud of the more than 27 years he spent serving the U.S. with active duty USAF and NY ANG. While with the USAF he was a Voice Processing Specialist with the 6970th ABG while stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland. While in the NY ANG he was stationed at Hancock Field with the 174th Tactical Fighter Wing, Medical Squadron, and retired as a First Sgt./Senior Master Sgt. in 2004.

In 1977 he graduated from Radiologic Technology SUNY CHRP, Syracuse. He was a 1970 graduate of T.J. Corcoran High School in Syracuse. Vince's favorite pastimes were spending time with family and friends; especially with his grandchildren, Madison and Alexander. He really liked to play golf, even though he didn't get to play as often as he would have liked to- online golf helped with the golfing bug.

The times spent with "little brother" Dave were important to him, as were the times shared with guitaring buddy, and friend, Ross.

Vincent is survived by: his wife of 49 years, Mary Ellen (Bolen); daughter, Carrie (Seth) Fishkin, of Maryland; sons, Vincent, Jr, of Oklahoma, and Jonathan, of Marcellus; as well as two very special joys of his life- granddaughter, Madison Fishkin, and grandson Alexander Coon. Also surviving are two brothers, Edward (Jan) of LaFayette, and David (Kathy), of Spafford; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Kathleen.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 19 from 2 pm to 5 pm, at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Syracuse. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 20 at 10 am at the funeral home. Procession for burial will follow to St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Marcellus.
