Obituary of Eugenia (Patruno) Olivia

Eugenia “Jean” (Patruno) Olivia, 93, of Syracuse passed away peacefully at home on August 7, 2023.  Jean, born in Syracuse to the late Michael and Fannie Patruno of Syracuse.  Jean attended St. Lucy’s high school and later became a medical secretary at Plaza Nursing Home for over 20 years.  She was a devout Catholic and an active member of Our Lady of Hope (formerly St. James).  She was known for her love of food and could often be found cooking in her kitchen or trying out a new restaurant.  She enjoyed traveling, the outdoors and her camp on Pleasant Lake where she spent many summers with family and friends.  She adored her dog (Blue Willow), enjoyed singing, dancing, listening to music (especially Frank Sinatra), reading, storytelling, and was able to find joy and true beauty in all the things around her. If there was a garage sale in town, Jean was there, unless there was a grandchild needing to be held. Whether you called her Jean, Mom, Jeannie, Aunt Jean, Gina-Beana (soup), the name that gave her the most joy was being called NANA. 

Jean is predeceased by her former husband, Patrick Olivia Jr, sister Loretta Hunneyman, and daughter Carol King. 

She leaves behind her brother Jerome Patruno of Syracuse, her children Brenda Boicourt of Camillus, Patrick Olivia III of Syracuse, Laura Olivia of Syracuse, and Michele Olivia of Nedrow, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday, August 15^th at Ballweg and Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina St. Syracuse.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Hope Church S. Salina St. Syracuse on Wednesday, August 16^th at 10:30 AM.

Burial will follow in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
