Kevin Carroll Sr.

Obituary of Kevin J. Carroll Sr.

Kevin J. Carroll, Sr. passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 12.  He was the youngest son of Paul Carroll and Carolyn Herold Carroll.  Kevin was the owner and president of Carroll Restorations, Inc., a custom cabinet shop located in Lafayette, New York.  He loved all things wood and often could be heard saying, “Let’s make it out of wood!”  Kevin also loved the game of baseball, even reaching the minor leagues (AA) as a catcher for both the Mets and Red Sox.  Later, he passed on his love for the game through coaching.

Kevin and his wife, Christine (Nuzzo), were high school sweethearts (Lafayette, Class of 1985).  The two were inseparable, marrying in 1988, and shortly thereafter, beginning their family with baby Kate.  When Kevin signed a contract with the NY Mets, the family travelled to Florida for what would be the 1st of 6 spring trainings.  Their second child, Kevin Jr., arrived in February, 1991.  With a 2-year-old, and a 4-day-old, they boarded the train for Florida once again.  The family was determined to stay together, even through the hardships of travel, setting up house, and spending countless days and nights at ball parks.  When baseball ended for the season, the family headed north to the Albany area so Kevin could complete his bachelor’s degree at Siena College.  He was in school full-time, worked part-time as a carpenter’s apprentice, and spent the evenings at the gym, staying in tip-top shape for baseball.

In the summer of 1992, his second son, Samuel, arrived in Lynchburg, Virginia.  The following day, Kevin left for a 14-day road trip, while Chris’ mom came to help with the three little ones.  Kevin received many awards and accolades for his baseball skills.  He was even called back to the game during the strike of 1994.  Yes, he was a scab!  After settling the family into their homestead in Pompey, New York, two more daughters were born to him, Bella, and Hannah, as well as two more sons, Nate and Tim.

Kevin’s greatest accomplishment and life achievement was knowing the Lord Jesus as his Savior, and passing on his great faith, hope and love for God to his wife, children and community.  In 2022, the couple acquired a former hardware store, relocating their cabinet shop and, in many ways, coming home to Lafayette.  Since this move, they have hosted weekly Christian Worship Services to encourage people to know the Savior more deeply.  These services will continue into the foreseeable future.

Kevin leaves a great legacy through his faith and family, which includes his wife, Chris, seven children, Katherine (Adam) Dusseault, Kevin, Jr. (Arianna), Samuel (Kristy), Isabelle (Patrick) Miles, Hannah (Matthew) Carey, Nathan (Kaylah) and Timothy.  Kevin is also “Papa” to nine grandchildren: Alanna Joy, Emma Carolyn, Ella Katherine and Amelia Rose Dusseault, Lilianna Rose Carroll, Emmett Patrick Miles, Adalynn Jane Carroll, Rowan Matthew Carey and Finley Michael Miles.  The torch is now lovingly passed on to all of you.

We also recognize and honor Kevin’s 5 brothers and their families:  Paul, Jr. (Sandra), Michael (Kim), Dan (Anne), Robert (Becky) and John (Heather) as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.  Kevin had great respect and admiration for the leadership of his brothers, and the many other faith-filled men of God in his life.  We also honor Kevin’s in-laws, Gary and Mary Ellen Coye, who were instrumental in sharing their faith and providing a tangible example of love for Jesus.  Our gratitude for you increases day by day.

Kevin was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Carolyn Carroll, by his step-dad, Gary Coye, and by his father-in-law, Gary Nuzzo, Sr., as well as several aunts and uncles.  It is our hope and belief that Kevin has now been reunited with these precious loved ones and is rejoicing with them before the Lord.

Kevin’s family would like to thank the wonderful medical professionals from the Town of Pompey and Crouse Hospital, for their expert care of Kevin.  Although his passing was very unexpected, we are at peace knowing that he is at home in the loving arms of Jesus and that we will see him again.  It is our prayer that all who knew Kevin, would come to the same assurance of the Grace of God, which was poured out for all.

To Kevin’s many business friends, colleagues and customers, thank you for always providing your support, love, humor and friendship to us and to our family.  You are loved and prayed for.  Thank you for reflecting this love back to us in so many ways.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that your generous giving be directed to Faith Chapel, 4113 West Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse, New York 13215, for the restoration of the Transformation House, a project which is taking the Gospel to the City of Syracuse.  This work continues until all have heard the Good News.

Calling hours have been established to visit with Kevin’s family on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 4-7pm, at Faith Chapel, Syracuse.  A celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, beginning at 11am, also at Faith Chapel, Syracuse. A Private Burial will take place at a later date.
