Obituary of Rose V. Gengler
Rose V. Gengler, 91, of South Onondaga, NY, passed away March 14, 2018 at Loretto. Rose was born in New York City, grew up in Middle Village, Queens, NY and raised her family in Hicksville, Long Island. She was a graduate of Bellevue Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse at Syosset Hospital in Long Island. After her husband’s retirement from the Nassau County Police Department, they moved to South Onondaga to be near her daughter’s family. Rose was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Hope (formerly St. James Church). She was a longtime volunteer at Van Duyn Home & Hospital and Hope for Bereaved.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Margaret (Steven) Kenyon of South Onondaga, NY; sons, William (Lucille) Gengler of Hicksville, NY, John Gengler of Hicksville, NY and Christopher (Dianne) Gengler of Paramus, NJ; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Isabella (McCarroll) Weicker; husband, Russell J. Gengler; daughter, Elizabeth Gengler; daughter-in-law, Denise Gengler; and sister, Adele Muller.
A calling hour will be held Monday, March 19, 2018 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope, 4845 S. Salina Street, Syracuse with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. A second Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Margaret Church, 66-05 79th Place, Middle Village, NY. Burial will follow in Saint John’s Cemetery in Middle Village, NY.
