Obituary of Walter F. Mamed

Walter F. Mamed, 89, of Chaffee Avenue in Syracuse, New York, died Saturday, March 31, 2007 at home. Walter was born November 20, 1917 in Brazil, the son of Julio and Angelica (Falcao) Mamede. At 17, he joined the Brazilian Army where he served for 10 years. He was employed by Carrier Corp. in Rio, Brazil and when he came to Syracuse in 1948, he continued to work for Carrier Corp. He retired from Pass & Seymour Inc., in Solvay, New York in 1982 after 20 years. He served in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Syracuse Sail & Power Squadron, both for over 25 years. He was a member of HAM operators and a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed family get-togethers. Walter is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Jane Reynolds Mamed; three sons and their wives, Walter (Laura) Mamed of Carrollton, TX, Wayne (Mary Jane) Mamed of Bristol, CT and Earl (Nancy) Mamed of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Jason, Matthew, Melissa, Brian and Nicole; one brother, Mozart Mamede of Brazil; one sister, Irene Silveira of Brazil; a 96 year old aunt and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, all in Brazil. He was predeceased by his parents; one brother, Alvaro and two sisters, Lia Fernandes and Mozarina Lopes. Services: A Prayer Service will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2007, 8:30 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, New York and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes, 300 Valley Drive, Syracuse, New York. Burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery, 2500 Valley Drive, Syracuse, New York. Calling Hours: Monday, April 2, 2007, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S.
