Obituary of George Harold Taylor

George Harold Taylor, 96, noted Boy Scout Leader for 34 years passed away Monday, February 26, 2007 at St. Camillus Health & Rehabilitation Center in Syracuse, New York. Born in Lisbon, New York, he graduated from Canton High School and came to Syracuse in 1928 to attend Central City Business Institute. Upon graduation he met and married his beloved wife the former Pernella Bloss, who predeceased him in 1994. Mr. Taylor worked for Dun & Bradstreet, Precision Casting and moving to New Process Gear where he worked his way up the ranks and retired as Quality Control Manager in 1974 with 30 years of service. In 1975 Mr. Taylor received the "Silver Beaver Award" for his 34 continuous years as Scoutmaster of Troop 16 at Atonement Lutheran Church. This is the highest award a volunteer can receive in Scouting. In 1976 he was honored by the Lutheran Church of America with the "Lamb Award" the highest honor given to a lay person by the church. He was a long time communicant of Atonement Lutheran Church and served as President of the Church Council, Chief Financial Officer and Usher. Surviving are daughters; Shirley J. (John) Marshall of Camillus, New York and Marge D. (David) Hoyt of Syracuse, New York, Sons; Richard H. (Polly) Taylor of Arkansas and Thomas E. (Bonnie) Taylor of Weedsport, New York, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services will be Friday, March 2, 2007, 10:00 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., Syracuse, New York. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, 800 Grant Boulevard, Syracuse, New York. Calling hours will be 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 1, 2007 at the funeral home, 4612 S. Salina Street.
