Obituary of Josephine Florence Maher

Josephine Florence (Mento) Maher, 82, passed away at home, Sunday, September 17, 2006, surrounded by her family. Josephine was born in "The Valley" of Syracuse, New York, September 1, 1924, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Himes) Mento. She graduated from Syracuse General in 1946 and joined the Navy as a Registered Nurse. While in the Navy, she met her husband, Marine John F. Maher. They married in 1953 and had two children. Jo worked as a registered nurse at Community General Hospital from 1966 until her retirement in 1984. She was predeceased by her husband, John; her sisters, Clara Kriese, Lola Pockwinse and her beloved sister, Betty Mento. She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Maher-Jones of Lovelock, Nevada; her son, Michael P. Maher of Auburn, New York; her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph "Bud" and Franny Mento of Syracuse, New York and several lifelong friends.
