Obituary of Oren Carl Haines

Oren "O.C." Haines, 80, of Leesburg, Florida and formerly of Syracuse, New York, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2006 in Florida. Oren was born December 22, 1925, the son of Lillian and Oren D. Haines of Syracuse, New York. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II as a cook in the Panama Canal Zone. He was a self-employed painter before working and retiring from SUNY Upstate Medical Center as a painter. He was a member of the American Legion, V. F. W., Eagles Club and Moose Lodge in Leesburg, Florida, as well as the American Legion Post 1468 in Syracuse, New York. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Barbara J. Haines of Leesburg, Florida; four children, Nancy J. (Daniel) Corey II of Apex, North Carolina, Richard C. Haines of Cheyenne, Wyoming, R. Bruce (Mary Ann) Haines of Marietta, New York and Deborah M. (James) Chappell of Burlington, North Carolina; twelve grandchildren, Melinda, Daniel III, Heather, Rich, Sherrie Renee, Kimberly, Jonathan, Robert, James, Rebecca, Barbara, Benjamin and five great-grandchildren, Emily Ann, Lauren, Madison, Anthony and Daniel IV. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held in the Spring. Donations may be made to Hospice of CNY, 990 Seventh North Street, Liverpool, New York 13088.
