Obituary of Georgia L. Shirley

Georgia Lee Shirley, age 96, formerly of 236 Ferndale Avenue, Syracuse, New York died Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at Iroquois Nursing Home, Jamesville, New York. Mrs. Shirley was born April 22, 1906 in Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, the daughter of George B. and Anna (Mosier) Abbott. She formerly lived in Sayre, Pennsylvania and she owned a summer home on Tully Lake, Tully, New York. She was the owner and operator of Airkem Service Company, Syracuse. During World War II she worked for Brown-Lipe-Chapin, Syracuse, testing machine guns. She was a well-known lecturer on Haviland China. She owned one of the largest private collections of Haviland China in New York State. She was a life time member of South Presbyterian Church, past President of the Antique Study Club, a member of Eastern Star and Daughter's of the Nile. She was a strong supporter of Valley Little League and she traveled to all 50 states. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ellsworth W. Shirley in 1977; three sons, Ellsworth A. (Barney) Shirley in 1945; Ronald L. Shirley in 1975; Edward B. Shirley in 1977; and one grandson, Edward John Shirley in 2000. She is survived by four grandsons, Gary E. Shirley, Kyle R. Shirley, Craigan P. Shirley, Ronald Keith Shirley; two granddaughters, Linda Lee Shirley and Rebecca Shirley Howard; 19 great-grandchildren and two nieces. Memorial Services: Friday, June 7, 2002, 6:00 p.m. in St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 2200 Valley Drive, Syracuse, with Rev. Don Moody officiating. Private burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery, 2500 Valley Drive, Syracuse.
