Obituary of Richard A. Corni

Smsgt. Richard "Dick, Ritchie" A. Corni, age 94, died peacefully on Friday, October 27, 2017, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, NY. Richard was born to Eugene and Rose Corni on September 3, 1923, in Manchester, NY. After his high school graduation, he enlisted as an Airman in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Richard attended Syracuse University, where he lettered in boxing in 1946. He re-enlisted in the USAF and served through the Korean War and start of the Vietnam War, another twenty-four years. Richard earned many honors, including the Bronze Star in 1953. Upon retiring from the military, Dick settled in Liverpool and worked for General Electric another twenty or so years. Dick enjoyed bowling, golf, and horseshoes at the Pioneer Club. He was one of the early members of the Clay Sportsmen Club and spent many hours enjoying camaraderie there when he was in the states. Dick spent most of his retirement traveling between his children, Liverpool, and his second home in Manila, Philippines. Richard was married to Martha VanWiggeren in 1956. He was a generous and loving father to his three children, Ellen (Dean) Belfiore, David (Sherry) Corni, and Janet (Joseph) Atkinson. He was a caring grandfather and great-grandfather. Richard's parents, wife, grandson, brother, and many friends predecease him. In honor of his wishes, no services will be held. Family will be with him when he is interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
