Hello Kathy and Amanda
Cate and I returned from vacationing together when I learned of Bill's passing and we were both so moved and sad for you. We thought Bill was a funny, happy, smart and positive force whenever we were around him. I so looked forward to volleyball hours that could be sprinkled with his humor and attitude. Than later I would run into him at lunch time at various local joints- He did love a soup and sandwich that he didn't have to make at home! A charming and wonderful soul, he left a mark with us, and we are so grateful to have known him. You must miss him dearly and for that we feel your pain. Please know that we are thinking of you and of him with great fondness and love, and we wish you peace as you remember him now.

To the Stessen Family, we are so very sorry for you lose. The world will be missing one who made it great. Coach Stessen and the man was a great influence on me, as a coach and a human being. I remember the days of having pizza with him and the guys at Park West. He was one of those people you just wanted to be around, was always happy and we had such great times when we were together. Thanks for the great memories. The Amann Family. Bob, Sheila, Amberley and Michael.

We are deeply saddened by your loss. Bill touched a lot of lives in a positive way: As a husband, father, teacher, coach and simply being a friend. Bill's philosophy in life was simple. A helping hand is always a saving grace. Whatever his endeavor, he always exemplified goodness, kindness and integrity. Then, of course, was his ability to make everyone around him forget their troubles with his humor. I can't recall who said it, but the saying captures the essence of this trait: "laugh and the world laughs, snore and you sleep alone." Although God now has Bill in his keeping, we still have him in our hearts.

Dear Mrs. Stesson, Dan and Amanda,
I was blessed to have Bill as a teacher for my first computing class at West Genesee Middle School. His patience, humor, smile, quick wit and incredible teaching skills will never be forgotten. The time in his class was always filled with happiness, and he had a way of making each student feel as though they were his favorite. Bill's good heart ran deep. He and Kathy invited my mother to drive with them to every away Syracuse Lacrosse game while Danny and Bobby played together. I appreciate the incredible kindness Bill always extended to us. Heaven gained one of the best.

Mrs. Stessen, Danny, & Amanda,
I am truly sorry for your loss. Your dad was an exceptionally kind and genuine man and an especially gracious host to all of Danny's friends. Every time I saw him, whether it was hanging out with Danny or running into him in town, he always took the time to chat about sports, life or ask how my parents were doing. He was a generous host, whether it was Christmas Eve or a random weeknight in the summer, always making sure we were comfortable and having a good time. His thoughtfulness, kindness and loving character is evident in his children and will certainly carry on.
Love,
Rich Craybas

So sorry for the loss of your husband Kathy and your dad Dan and Amanda. You know how much I loved my coach, mentor and friend. Seldom does a kid get someone that brings such a perfect balance of challenge and encouragement that Stess brought. I am so thankful for all of the positive influence and support he brought into my life as I was growing up and the life-long friendship over the years. He will always be the "BOSS" to me. I will all miss him dearly. With deepest sypathy.

Ruthanne and I were so saddened by Bill's passing and our love and condolences go to all his family. Bill was my favorite cousin (Kathy S too of course). When I was a little kid Aunt Marie and uncle Bob would watch me while my parents were away and I loved staying at their house with wonderful memories of playing bumper pool with Kathy and Bill and at night Bill and one of his friends would walk me down to the Brighton Theater and take me to a horror movie and walk me back to his house. It was so much fun and I got to see a lot of those 50's funky movies. Bill was always kind to me and even taught me how to draw cartoon characters, I just loved him and even took his name (William) as my confirmation name. Ruthanne and I will always miss him and wished now that we spent more time up at the lake. God bless and I hope to see you again in a better place.

Kathy, Dan, & Amanda,
So sorry to here of your loss. Bill and I taught and coached in different schools at W. G.
He was always a role model and friend. I was lucky enough be varsity coach to his son, Dan. Bill was the type of parent every coach wants to have around. After only seeing him occasionally for a number of years, I was able to reconnect more regularly with W G wrestling alum. His positive influence on those he coached & taught was obvious.
Again my condolences to the family.

I taught all Bill for many years at West Genesee, and ran into him at the Lake House Pub in Skaneateles a month ago . I noticed his tee shirt before I recognized him which said
"I never knew going up would take so long" which i think reflects the funny, irreverent way he approached at least his job and friendships.

Our Condolences to Kathy, Dan, Amanda and John. Bill was one of the most generous people we know. He was incredibly kind to my daughter and I. He gave us rides when our cars broke down, having driven a multitude of old cars himself. We loved having lunch with him where he would listen to our story and then dispense his pearls of wisdom! They were usually funny and we loved his humor. He knew everything about Syracuse, where to get a tire, which gas station had best price. I often ran into him at Tops, where we would get caught up. 40 minutes later but I always enjoyed hearing about his wife ,children, camp, softball and a good fish story.Bill was also friends with my Dad. We knew each other for a year before we figured that out. What a small world! They were both IA teachers &fraternity brothers at Oswego! He was so kind to my daughter often taking her to school during finals week when I had to work! He mailed her care packages of Chocolate while she was at college!! One day my fan broke in my classroom and Bill came down to help fix it. 98 degrees and blistering hot but we got it done! He made classrooms without AC bearable! He had a heart of gold and we will miss his generosity, advice and our long lasting coffee drinking friendship!!!

Mr. Stessen,
You are one of the finest gentleman and souls that I have ever come across.
You always opened your house to me when I needed a place to stay and a meal to eat. I will never forget the laughter you provoked as you cut into those turkeys at the dinner table with that electric saw. I remember many of our conversations consisting of me finishing a thought and you answering only by staring and silence. After what seemed like the longest pause you would then proceed to answer me with hilarity and then wisdom. I wish I would have spent more time with you. I thank you for every moment we had. You were one of the best.
Dan and Amanda, I am very sorry I won't be there in support . I love you both .

Heartfelt condolences to the family of Bill Stessen at this very sad, painful time. I had the privilege of being able to count Bill as a close friend. I appreciate the many positive contributions he made toward my quality of life. The fun and fond memories he created are innumerable.
Multi-talented as he was, Bill was always modest, humble and quick to give others compliments and praise while politely deflecting any praise that came his way. He genuinely cared about others and made everyone around him feel like they were special. His presence in a room guaranteed an increase in the amount of laughter. Bill had integrity, intelligence, personality, a quick smile and a great sense of humor. He was the kind of friend you treasure. I miss you good buddy, my heart is aching. Heaven is getting one of "The Good Guys." Bud Brown
