An accountant’s job, succinctly, is to prepare and examine financial records, then offer advice and instruction. Paul, however, knew that there was much more to the numbers on the page. He objectively knew the numbers showed job loss or discord during the hard years, as well as raises or bonuses during the good years, but he also knew these numbers on the page represented families and the choices they made. Without judgment, Paul offered advice and assistance that provided the best outcomes for his clients during the good and bad years. He seemed to have a moral compass with an impeccable direction that is often lacking in today’s work environment. He also understood that human behavior is not always rational and he allowed for this weakness when planning with clients on an individual level. Paul was our accountant for over twenty years. He will be deeply missed.
