I am a member of the Onondaga County Retired Teachers and am the chair of our Friendly Service program whereby some of our younger retirees send cards and remembrances to our more mature members. Marguerite's volunteer was Margreta (Greta) who recently passed away. As I was looking to reassign her Friendly Service Receivers, I learned of Marguerite's death. I am sorry I didn't know her personally after reading her wonderful tributes from her students who had her as a teacher over 60 years ago. What a legacy she has left behind! She obviously touched many lives, teaching values and habits that they passed to their chidlren and they on to their children. What a chain of values to be passed on. On behalf of the Onondaga County Retired Teachers I offer my condolences to her nephews and nieces and to all of her family and friends. Dianne Emmick

Miss Bly was my kindergarten teacher 69 years ago. She was always very special and truly defined her profession in such a graceful manner.
She attended my wedding in 1967 and gifted us with a vase I will always treasure.
Thank you for sharing her with us.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. She was a great aunt also. Being her only nephew for many years was special. She always was around for any school or family events, and was proud of her grand niece and nephews as well. She will be missed, but is at final piece.

I too was one of Miss Bly's "children." She was my teacher in kindergarten when Sumner School first opened (1955). She also taught our class for first grade and second grade. I was so blessed to have her as my teacher for my first three years of school! She was truly a gifted teacher who handled all of her students with ease and kindness. We all loved her and we were sad when we finally had to accept a new teacher for third grade. Sometimes when talking with people, the question would come up, "Who was your favorite teacher?" Without hesitation I would answer, "Miss Bly!" She instilled in me a love for learning. I did run into her one day around 1983 and we had a wonderful talk. I told her that she was the best teacher that I ever had. I'm glad that I had the opportunity to tell her that. I was surprised that she remembered me but she went into her apartment and brought me a couple of stories that I had written in her second grade class! She said that I was one of her favorite students and she had saved these papers of mine! I am glad to know that she had a long life. I am sorry that the Covid virus prevents me from saying goodbye in person. I am sorry for your loss. She was a wonderful person whom I will never forget. God bless her and all of you.

Myself and many of my siblings traded phone calls yesterday after reading of Miss Bly’s passing. Beginning in the late 50’s many of the Corbett children, who lived on Harvard Place had Miss Bly as our very first teacher. She left a lasting impression on all of us. It was nice to mention her name yesterday and reminisce about our positive experiences at Sumner Elementary. God Bless Miss Bly.

I'm also one of Miss Bly's children, from the 1st "old Sumner School" on Basset Street, in the 1952-3 era. I remember her most fondly and as a helpful friend who always nurtured us little kids in every way possible. We were required to take naps, even though not tired. I learned some patience and how to keep still and quiet to help the others. Singing, getting-along with each other, and making friends was what I remember, and always a kind word. She was exceptionally gifted teacher and individual who helped me become an inquisitive and caring individual.

I was one of her "children" at Sumner School. I'm 62 years old, and I still remember her fondly. She was very kind and provided a wonderful beginning to my school year days! I often wondered about her, and I'm glad to know that she enjoyed a long healthy life. Rest In Peace, Miss Bly, you nurtured so many of us in all of your teaching years!
