Obituary of Rosemary E. McGinn

Rosemary (McMahon) McGinn, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend passed away Thursday, June 8, 2006 at University Hospital after a short illness. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by loving family members. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Clifford McGinn; son, Brendan McGinn; parents, Bernard and Eugenia (Lipinski) McMahon; brothers, Joseph and Jeremiah McMahon. Rosemary, a lifelong resident of the Syracuse area, leaves a cherished legacy to the local community. This legacy includes her children, their families, and the family members' numerous achievements in business, science, education, law enforcement, community service and religious life. Rosemary's personal accomplishments were many. A graduate of St. Brigid's Grammar School and Convent High School (Class of 1946), she attended Central City Business Institute while working at the Easy Washer Company. In 1947, she enrolled in the inaugural class of LeMoyne College, graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. Following her graduation, she worked as a patent chemist at Bristol Myers until her marriage in 1954. She spent the remainder of her life as the loving wife of Clifford and the mother of her eleven children. Rosemary was a fifty two year communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. She participated in numerous community, religious, and political activities, including The Sodolity of Mary and the LeMoyne College Alumni Society. In 2001, she proudly joined her LeMoyne College classmates for their 50th Graduation celebration. Her leadership skills led to her involvement in school and parent organizations, youth sports programs, girl scout troops, Catholic education classes and grassroots political activity. Rosemary served as a surrogate mother to numerous young people who sought both her counsel and her loving touch. Rosemary, fondly referred to as "Rosie" or "Mim" to those close to her, was thoughtful, generous and loyal to all who knew her. Rosemary is survived by six sons, Brian, Sean and Joseph of Syracuse, Kevin of East Syracuse, Dennis of Tully and Terrence of Jordan; four daughters, Sharon McGinn-Castle of Tully, Patricia Arnold of Onondaga, Siobhan Jones and Kathleen Hammer of Syracuse; sisters, Bernadine Warner of Syracuse and Eugenie Coleman of Solvay; twenty grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws. Calling Hours: Monday, June 12, 2006 and Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 300 Valley Drive, Syracuse, New York. Funeral Service: Wednesday, June 14, 2006, 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Burial: St. Mary's Cemetery, 4100 E. Genesee Street, Dewitt, New York.
