Obituary of Rosamond Murrell

Rosamond Beatrice Murrell, age 90, died Thursday, February 23, 2006 at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse, New York. Rosamond was born July 31, 1915 near Manchester, New York, the daughter of Charles William Murrell and Judith Angeline Garneau Murrell. She received degrees in education from Syracuse Normal School and Syracuse University, and began her career by teaching for two years in a one-room schoolhouse. She taught third grade for 35 years at Charles Andrews Elementary and Delaware Elementary in Syracuse. Her love of children and story-telling knew no bounds. She was active in professional organizations, serving on committees which negotiated contracts with the Syracuse Teachers' Association. She was a life member of the New York State Teachers' Association. Rosamond's interests were varied including antiques, world travel, and sports. She shopped the antiques shows and collected many lovely pieces of furniture and glassware to furnish her apartment. She made several visits to European countries, to Hawaii, and she traveled extensively in the U.S. She had a soft spot in her heart for The Orange basketball and football teams of Syracuse University, and took great pleasure in watching the best of both teams as they went on to professional careers. She is survived by two nieces who adored her all their lives: Virginia Morand and her husband Lee, of Summerville South Carolina; Lynne Murrell of San Francisco California; and two more generations of great nieces and nephews: Michael Morand and his wife Carola; Donna Morand Lindecamp, her husband Darryl, and Kaylan Lindecamp; and Matthew Morand, his wife Kim and their children Katie and Caroline. Her holiday visits with family were always eagerly awaited. "Tell us a story, Aunt Rose." She had a special love for all animals, and delighted her family by sending special holiday greeting cards to the dogs and rabbits. She leaves many dear friends who will miss her laughter, including Peggy Bly and Fred Bishop, and hundreds of former students who learned the Three Rs and proper decorum in Rosamond's classroom. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nursing staff on 5-South at Crouse Hospital for their loving care.
