Obituary of James E. McVoy

James E. "Jim" McVoy, 83, a lifelong resident of Webb Road in Lafayette, New York passed away at home on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 after a long illness. James was born December 10, 1921 in LaFayette, New York, the son of Earl Dennis and Ruby Ann (McClary) McVoy. He was a graduate of LaFayette High School and married his high school classmate Thelma "Sally" Lauzon on Flag Day in 1941, and they celebrated their 63rd anniversary last year. Jim and Sally retired from the family dairy farm in the 1970's after more than 30 years. Jim went on to work for the LaFayette School District as a school bus driver and mechanic for 17 years. After a second retirement, Jim and Sally enjoyed many years of square dancing, cards, reading and traveling together and with their children and grandchildren, visiting all 50 states and traveling abroad. His prowess at dominoes, horseshoes and the Sunday Jumble were legendary. In addition to Sally, Jim is survived by two children, James E. (Susan) McVoy Jr. of Coatesville, Pennsylvania and Mary Edwards of LaFayette, New York; sister; four grandchildren, Todd McVoy, Deborah Ossit, Kelly Flood and Benjamin McVoy; four great-grandchildren and a sister, Helen Morris of LaFayette, New York. His everpresent sense of humor, his loving kindness and support, and his gift for storytelling will be sorely missed. Visiting Hours: Saturday, February 5, 2005, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., 2584 Field Lane, LaFayette, New York. Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
