Obituary of Douglas E. Blandford

Douglas E. "Doug" Blandford, 93, life resident of The Valley, died Tuesday, at the VA Medical Center, Syracuse, New York. Douglas was born November 27, 1910 in Syracuse, New York, the son of William and Bessie (Roberts) Blandford. He was a mechanic at L. C. Smith and retired in 1976 after 18 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of VFW Post 2893, Solvay, Charter and oldest member of Valley Men?s Club, Charter and oldest member of American Legion Valley Post 1468 and a member of Operating Engineers Local 545. He was an avid bowler, bowling in various leagues at Valley Sports Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice (Waters) Blandford in 1999. Doug is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Glenn Monnell of Camillus, New York; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Shirley Blandford of Fulton, New York; eight grandchildren. Services: Wednesday, September 8, 2004, 10:00 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., Syracuse, New York with Rev. Beth DuBois officiating. Burial: Onondaga Valley Cemetery, 2500 Valley Drive, Syracuse, New York. Calling Hours: Tuesday, September 7, 2004, 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, 4612 S. Salina Street.
