Obituary of John Ernest Bloom

John Ernest Bloom, 82, of Cardiff, New York died Monday, August 9, 2004 surrounded by his family at the V. A. Medical Center, Syracuse, New York. John was born April 24, 1922 in Catskill, New York, the son of Lewis and Melitta (Hunter) Bloom. He was a graduate of SUNY Cobleskill. He served in the Army Air Corps during WW II and was a POW. He was the owner of Blooms Poultry Farms for 52 years, retiring in 2003. He was a member, Trustee and past President of the Board of Trustees of Cardiff United Methodist Church. He was a volunteer fire fighter with the Cardiff Fire Department, a volunteer Coach for the LaFayette Community Council Baseball, member of VFW LaFayette Post and a 50 year member and Gatekeeper for Tully Valley Grange. He enjoyed working in his garden and helping at his son Mike?s dairy farm. He was an avid Yankee fan and he enjoyed watching his family participate in youth sports. Survivors: His wife of 56 years, the former Kay Marie King; one daughter, Constance Cherry of Nedrow, New York; four sons and their wives, Terry (Judy) Bloom of Cardiff, New York, Michael (Karen) Bloom of Otisco, New York, Timothy (Colleen) Bloom of Cardiff, New York and Matthew (Maureen) Bloom of Chittenango, New York; two sisters, Harriet O'Conner of Coxsackie, New York and Lillian MacLellan of North Carolina; 21 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren. Services: Saturday, 11:00 a.m. in Cardiff United Methodist Church, Route 11A, LaFayette, New York. Burial: Cardiff Cemetery, Route 11A, LaFayette, New York.
