Obituary of Betty R. Allen

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Betty R. Allen, 81, of Syracuse, New York died Thursday at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse. Betty was born January 19, 1923 in Hamilton, New York, the daughter of Lynn and Ethelind (Fitch) Armstrong. She was a waitress for many area country clubs. She did childcare for many years which was a very important part of her life. She was a National Champion Drummer, a member of American Legion Post # 41 Auxiliary and a former treasurer of Lebanon Reservoir Campground Association in Hamilton, New York. She enjoyed camping, traveling, cooking and gardening. Betty is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert Allen; five daughters, Beth Hubert of North East, Pennsylvania, Cherie Boardman of Deluth, Georgia, Bonnie Sponable of Parish, New York, Dorothy Gilmer and Cindy Allen both of Syracuse, New York; two sons, Richard Boardman of Memphis, Tennessee and Scott Allen of Fayetteville, Georgia; one sister, Marion Frieswyk of Springfield, Virginia; 15 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Isabelle Charles and a brother, Glenn Armstrong. Services: Wednesday, February 11, 2004, 11:00 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Terry Millbyer officiating. Burial: Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 4069 Howeltt Hill Road, Syracuse, New York. Calling Hours: Tuesday, February 10, 2004, 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, New York.
