Obituary of Avis B. Brennan

Avis Bassett Brennan, age 92, of Syracuse, New York died suddenly at her home on Wednesday, March 19, 2003. Avis was born April 20, 1910 in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, the daughter of Albert and Mathilde (Corriveau) Bassett. Her husband Marshall Brennan, also of Syracuse, predeceased her in 1961. She was employed by the Catholic Shop of Syracuse for more than ten years donating her time and artistic talent to make and repair sacred statues and vestments for various churches in the Syracuse Diocese. Following the death of her husband she was employed for fourteen years by General Electric where she was a Union Steward. She retired May 1, 1975. During this period, as well as after her retirement, Avis traveled to Hawaii which was a great source of personal enjoyment for her. Avis was a life member of the Catholic Daughters of America and supported numerous community, national and religious organizations. She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Syracuse. Mrs. Brennan is survived by two sisters, Florence B. Rose of Florida and Alice B. Scully of Cortland, New York. In addition, six nephews and nieces and numerous great nephews and nieces survive her. Services: Friday, March 21, 2003, 9:15 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc. and 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1515 Midland Avenue, Syracuse where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by Father Robert Chryst. Burial: St. Mary's Cemetery, 4100 E. Genesee Street, Dewitt, New York.
