Obituary of Roy T. Harris

Roy T. Harris, age 84, of Syracuse, New York died Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at The Nottingham, Dewitt, New York. Roy was born April 10, 1918 in Lexington, North Carolina, the son of Reuben and Clatie (Greene) Harris. He lived in Cortland for many years before moving to Syracuse in 1954. He was a graduate of the National Institute of Dry Cleaning in Washinton, DC. He worked for Harris Dry Cleaners in Cortland, New York from 1938 - 1954. He then moved to Syracuse, New York and founded Harris Dry Cleaners in Westvale, New York where he worked for 36 years, retiring in 1990. He was a communicant of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret M. (Morton) Harris, December 14, 1990. Mr. Harris is survived by one daughter, Diane L. Harris of Baldwinsville, New York; one son, Thomas M. Harris of Syracuse, New York; four sisters: Laura Wright of Durham, North Carolina, Louise Vormwald of Clearwater, Florida, Dorcas Holland of Savannah, Georgia and Agnes Gillet of Highland, New York; two brothers, Fred G. Harris of North Carolina and Richard Harris of Chatanooga, Tennesee; several nieces and nephews. Funeral: Saturday, January 18, 2002, 8:00 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunford Funeral Home, Inc., and 8:45 a.m. in Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 259 E. Onondaga Street, Syracuse, New York where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by Father Joseph Champlin. Burial: St. Mary's Cemetery, Cortland, New York.
