Obituary of Marilyn Edwards

Marilyn Edwards December 5, 2017 Marilyn Edwards, 79, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, December 5, 2017, at Francis House. Born in Syracuse on September 2, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Louise (Horton) Edwards. Marilyn was a Sister of St. Francis for twenty years. After that, she received an A.A.S. in nursing from Onondaga Community College, Bachelor's in Social Work from Syracuse University, and M.S.W. from Syracuse University. She worked as a nurse at Loretto and St. Joseph's hospital, before retiring from Community General Hospital where she worked as a nurse social worker. Marilyn was a devout Catholic with tremendous faith. She was very involved with Mercy Prayer Center in Rochester, taught classes at Oasis, and was involved with support groups Natur-Tyme. Marilyn was also certified as a Reiki therapist. She is survived by her brother, William Edwards of Delaware, OH; cousins, Sue (Ray) Elwood and Dick (Fern) Hill; Sue and Ray's children, Craig (Jeannette) Elwood and Scott (Phyllis) Elwood; Sue and Ray's grandchildren, Heather, Alyssa, Lex and Ben Elwood; the Sisters of St. Francis; and special friends, Joan Hartman and Sister Carolyn Chmielewski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope (formerly St. James Church), 4845 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, with Rev. Christopher J. Ballard officiating. Friends are invited to call an hour before the service, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the church. Burial will follow in Onondaga Valley Cemetery, Syracuse.
