Hanora Lynn

Obituary of Hanora M. Lynn

Hanora M. Lynn 95, of The Valley, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Community Hospital Upstate Campus. Born in Ireland, Nora was the daughter of the late Johanna Roche and Michael McCarthy. She worked as a housekeeper for priests in England in her late teens. Upon returning to Ireland for her Grandmother’s funeral she later emigrated from Ireland at the age of 23 and settled in Syracuse’s Tipperary Hill section. She worked as a seamstress at Dey Brother’s Department Store, where she also modeled bridal gowns. She met her future husband, Patrick J Lynn, at the Ancient Order of Hibernians (a local Irish club). After a 7- year friendship, then engagement they married and moved to the Valley. She devoted herself to caring for their home and raising their two children. She re-entered the workforce after the children finished school. She worked as an office clerk at MCOA, a lunch aide at Meachem School, and a library assistant at Legal Services of CNY.

A devout Catholic, she was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, then St. James (currently Our Lady of Hope) where she sang in the choir in the 1970‘s and 80’s, and volunteered at the bake sales and BINGO games.  Nora enjoyed dancing with her husband in earlier years, loved music throughout her life, and in her later years reading the abundance of books that her son, Michael, kept her supplied with (she read over 300 works prior to entering assisted living). She was always active and enjoyed lunching and bargain shopping with her daughter, Barbara. She proudly lived in her home until she was 92, then moved into assisted living at Manlius Home where she enjoyed new friendships and participated in all of the activities.

Nora was predeceased by her husband Patrick J. Lynn in 2008, and is survived by her son, Michael J. Lynn, of Syracuse and Barbara A. Lynn, of Syracuse. The family wishes to extended their deep gratitude and appreciation to Manlius Home for enriching Nora's life these past 3 years and adding much laughter, and many smiles to her days (especially during the difficult time of COVID) and for always treating her with respect. Thanks also to everyone at Community Hospital for their caring, compassion and professionalism.

Mom, we will miss you always and love you forever.
