David Lamont “Pookie” Tanyhill III

            David Lamont “Pookie” Tanyhill III, 52, of Syracuse, NY, died unexpectedly on Sunday June 25, 2023.  He was born on December 9, 1970 in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Rev. Dr. David L. Tanyhill Jr., and Evang. Laura (Carrington) Tanyhill. 

            David graduated from Beechcroft High School in Columbus, Class of 1989.  He was an avid lover of his Ohio State Buckeyes, motorcycles, and loved to cook.  David was a member of the Pentecost Evangelical Missionary Baptist Church where he was most recently named a Deacon-In-Training.

            David is preceded in death by both his maternal and paternal grandparents, and his father. 

Leaving to cherish his memories are his four children; Tiarah (Pittsburgh, PA.), Taylor (Springfield, OH.), Lydia (Savannah, GA.), and David IV (Syracuse, NY.), two granddaughters; Taylenn and Khloe, his mother, his brother; Rev. Dr. Derrick L. Tanyhill Sr., special friend; Clarice Harris, along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and family. 

            Celebration of life services will be held on Saturday July 8, 2023 at the Tucker Missionary Baptist Church; 515 Oakwood Ave., Syracuse, NY 13205.  Public Viewing will start at 10:00 a.m., with the celebration of life service immediately following at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will take place at the Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
