Obituary of Michael Leo Reed

Michael Leo Reed, 62, of Lafayette, New York died Monday, October 31, 2005 at New York University Medical Center. Michael was born in Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania, the son of Ronald G. "Mike" Reed and Dorothy L. Dalton. He graduated from Reynoldsville Winslow High School in 1961. Graduated from Clarion State College in 1971 earning a BS in Elementary Education and from Syracuse University in 1974 earning a BS and Masters in Physical Education. He retired from Fayetteville Manlius School District in 2001 following 29 years of service as an elementary school teacher. He previously taught at Bishop Grimes and in the Waynedale Ohio Central School District. He was the owner of the Log Cabin Inn in LaFayette. Michael enjoyed golfing and was an avid sports fan, particularly football and baseball. In his youth, he was an accomplished athlete with the Federated Coal Miner's League and had a tryout with the Pittsburg Pirates. He was active in coaching J.V. Basketball, Modified Lacrosse and an assistant coach with the Varsity Football team all at F.M. He was also a Section III Lacrosse official. Surviving are his wife of 37 years, the former Carol A. Evans; one daughter, Micki Reed of LaFayette, New York; two sons, Brock D. Reed of Oswego, New York and Andrew J. (Tamara) Reed of Syracuse, New York; two brothers, Donald Reed of Manlius, New York and John Reed of Erieville, Pennsylvania; one sister, Kathy Reed of Louisville, Kentucky; one grandaughter, Arianna Reed of Syracuse, New York. Services: Saturday, November 5, 2005, 10:15 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home and 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 6136 Cherry ValleyTurnpike, LaFayette where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated.
