Back in the day, WNDR ruled Syracuse radio and OB ruled WNDR. I was shocked to learn of his death but would like to thank him for the many hours of enjoyment he gave all of us when we were younger and glued to the radio there in Syracuse. Things change, not always for the better here on this earth, but I know that Jim is in a better place now. Thank you, OB.

I am sorry that I am not able to express my condolences to you all in person. I have great memories of listening to your Dad on the radio. I remember a baseball game at Meachum, (Mcallair's field!) when Mike Downs had sound equipment in his vehicle and your Dad ""called"" the game- To everyone's delight, he made it seem like Yankee baseball.!!! He had a marvelous talent for broadcasting and the ability to connect and draw loyalty from his listeners.. Additionally, he was always quick with his friendly Hello and inquiry into what's going on in your world. With deepest sympathy, Maureen Cregg

Jim was like a second father to me. His love and generosity made my childhood along with my two brothers and his two beautiful daughters absolutely amazing (Jamie and Jen too). Not a day will go by without him and his family in my prayers. My heart goes out to the family and all touched by Jim. The day Jim passed away was a huge loss for mankind and a major gain for heaven. He was a truely genuine man.

I never actually met Mr. O'Brien but he really made a difference in my life. He was truly thoughtful and generous. He probably doesn't even know the impact he made on people, if he was as kind to others as he was to my family. What an inspiration of kindness he was.... Bless Jim and bless his family and loved ones.

Family and Friends of Jim, my prayers are with you. Jim's legacy to the Central New York community will live on. He was a true friend of my late husband and fellow radio personality, George Plavocos. I will never forget that. I am imagining that they are having a grand reunion in Heaven. It was my pleasure to know him.

I didn't have the pleasure of personally knowing Jim O'Brien, but I definitely had the pleasure of listening to him on his radio show on WNDR and in later years on WNDR when it played country music legends. He re-introduced me to Kris Kristofferson's music. My thoughts and prayers go to his family and many friends. He and fellow DJ Bud Ballou are together again raising heck!

Although radio may be hought of as glamorous, there were many days it wasn't so glamorous for Jim. Of course, that's what made this man so wonderful. He approached every day with humor, humility and a true concern about his friends and co-workers. I had the pleasure of 8 great years with Jim at 93Q/WNDR. But don't worry Jimmy, your caring legacy will live on. Rest in Peace, my friend.

I worked with Mr. O'Brien for a number of years in the Bellevue C.C. Pro Shop. I feel honored to have known him...he was a true friend. Anyone who had the opportunity to spend time with 'OB' loved him right from the start. He had the qualities we all admire and look for in friends...the ability to make people laugh and a heart of gold. 'OB' will be truly missed. Jamie - My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Jim's passing.Even though I never met Jim in person, I felt like he was a friend because of his warm, friendly on-air personality. Syracuse radio in the 60's was ruled by O.B., and I was one of his many loyal listeners. Rest in peace, Jim - I know you're still spinning those discs in rock 'n roll heaven.

I was so saddened by the news of Jim's passing. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with Jim and his family and friends. Jim and I started in the radio business at almost the same time and we shared overnight dj shifts at competing stations, Jim on WNDR and me on WOLF in the summer of 1961. Jim and I got acquainted on the phone during those long 6 hour shifts and occasionally had some fun with the audience by playing the same record at the same time.We became colleagues at WNDR in the spring of 1962 when I was hired to do early evenings and Jim was moved to late evenings. Although I was only there for a year before moving on, Jim and I remained life long friends. I spent some time with Jim in 1985 when I returned to Syracuse to run a business. I visited WNDR/WNTQ regularly and was always delighted visiting Jim while he was on the air.I talked with Jim recently after learning of his condition. He sounded great and was in good spirits. I know he enjoyed the call as much as I did.Jim was a kind, gentle man with a great sense of humor and a big heart. He took things as they came and always seemed to make the best of his situations. I think everyone that knew him loved him. I know that I will never forget him. Please accept my sympathy for your loss.Rick (Dick) SnyderWest Palm Beach, Florida
