Obituary of James L. OA?Brien

James Lawrence O'Brien, 62 of North Syracuse, New York died peacefully Saturday, April 30, 2005 at Francis House with his family and companion at his side. James was born March 26, 1943 in Syracuse, New York, the son of Lawrence and Martha (Lancaster) O'Brien. A life resident of the Syracuse area, he was a Class of 1961 graduate of St. Anthony of Padua High School. Known as "King of the D.J.'s" and "Dean of the Dawn" Mr. O'Brien was a Disc Jockey with WNDR and WNTQ retiring in 1995 following 34 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked in the Pro Shop at Bellevue Country Club. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran serving in 1966-1972. Surviving are his three daughters and son-in-law, Jennifer O'Brien-Murphy of Onondaga Hill, New York; Kathleen "Katy" (Mark Dubey) O'Brien of Onondaga Hill, New York and Megan O'Brien of Syracuse, New York; his son, Jamie O'Brien of Marcellus, New York; three grandchildren, Isabelle Murphy, Connor Kniffin, and Sean O'Brien; his companion of 13 years, Mary Ann Fierro of North Syracuse, New York; his former wife, Linda O'Brien of Syracuse, New York; his aunt, Arlene Lancaster of Florida; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services: Wednesday, May 4, 2005, 9:00 a.m. in St. James Church, 4845 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, New York. Burial: Onondaga Valley Cemetery, 2500 Valley Drive, Syracuse, New York.
