Obituary of June M. Merckel

June M. Merckel, age 84, died Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at Community General Hospital, Onondaga Hill, New York. June was born May 28, 1920 in Syracuse, New York, the daughter of Walter and Marjorie (Pepper) Gilson. She was a resident of the Syracuse Valley community for 52 years. She was a 50 years plus member of the Onondaga Valley Presbyterian Church during which time she served as Sunday school teacher, choir member, Elder, Deacon and active member of the Christian Woman's Association and bible study group. June had also been active in the Valley community as a First Grade Teacher at John Van Duyn Elementary School for 30 years, a regular volunteer at Community General Hospital for 20 years and a member of the Valley Literacy Club for over 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lorenz Merckel, January 17, 1997. June is survived by her two sons, Gary C. Merckel and his wife Barbara of Camillus, New York and J. Alan Merckel of Syracuse, New York; one sister, Jeanette Winks of Jacksonville, Florida; one brother, Ernest Gilson of Syracuse, New York; three grandchildren, Christopher Merckel, Sarah Merckel and Angela Hale; two great granddaughters, Brooklyn and Olivia Hale. Memorial Service: Saturday, December 18, 2004, 11:00 a.m. in Onondaga Valley Presbyterian Church, 275 W. Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse, New York with Rev. Beth Dubois officiating.
