Obituary of Robert J. McElhannon

Robert J. McElhannon, Jr., 78, of Big Bend, New York died Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at home. Robert was born October 25, 1925 in North Carolina, the son of Robert J. and Helen (Chapman) McElhannon. He retired from Syracuse Herald Journal as a distributor in 1987 after over 30 years. He formerly worked at General Motors, Brown Lipe Chapin and was the owner/operator of Big Bend Service. He played on the Senior Softball Over 75 league with the "Big Bend Seniors". The team advanced to and won the World Series played in Canton, Michigan in 2000. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served with Company UDT Team 19. Robert is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marian Quartier McElhannon; four sons, Robert (Judy) McElhannon of Pompey, New York, Rick McElhannon of China Grove, North Carolina, Jamie (Patsy) McElhannon of LaFayette, New York and Roger (Sharon) McElhannon of LaFayette, New York; one sister, Sylvia White of Liverpool, New York; 17 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces & nephews. Services: Saturday, September 25, 2004, 11:00 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., LaFayette, New York with Father Michael Minehan and Father John Kurgan officiating.
