There are many nice things that I can say about Mr. Hafler. He was at every one of Jeff's baseball games that I can remember during the two years I got to play on the same team as Jeff. And he was a familiar face up at SU. He will be missed. Mrs. Hafler, Rebekah, and Jeff my thoughts and prayers are with you. Stay strong and find comfort within family and friends.

Candy, Rebekah and Jeff....There really aren't many words adequate enough to express how we feel sitting over here next door to you guys. Our hearts break for you. We will miss Dave...We each have our own unique, fond and some hilarious memories of and involving Dave. I for one will miss chatting with him over the bushes between our yards about all sorts of things...even getting the weather report from him so I'd know if I could lay in the sun that day! He made us all laugh and I just can't believe he's gone. When our new camper was broken down out front for a whole day and I was near tears as I watched the day begin and end and we still were unable to leave for our scheduled vacation that morning, it was Dave who came over and visited with me and Bob and my parents out front and made me realize that life was truly much too short to ""sweat the small stuff""....God, he really knew how true that statement was. Thank you all for sharing this wonderful man with our family. With love and deepest sorrow, Bob, Kathy, Chris, Jessica, Bobby, Emily and of course, his little friend, Tinka, too!

Rebekah,I am so sorry that you lost your father. I'm also sorry that I couldn't be there in Syracuse to give you a big hug. I remember meeting your dad just once...he seemed like such a charming man. All of us have been having a rough time lately with Sarah W. passing but you, I can't even imagine how you must be feeling now with losing your dad combined with all the other recent sadness. If there's anything I can do, please let me know. Take care of yourself and your family. I love you Rebekah.

Dear Candy, I don't know if you remember me and my husband, you had dinner at our house one holiday on Nottingham Rd when the kids were very young. I can only say how shocked I was when I read that Dave had passed away.Since we live now in Myrtle Beach I wasn't aware that he had been ill. I am so sorry. Dave and I go back along way; the Big "O", Central Tech. Lee's, softball , bowling at Valley Lanes on Sunday mixed league , driving the red vette through snowbanks, parties in the basement, working at SU.. we did it all..I have such great memories .He was one of a kind and a great friend to me and even though I haven't been in contact with Dave for around 7 years I feel a tremendous loss and sadness that I will never see his funny looking face again.. I can only imagine how you and the kids feel.On behalf of all my family (The Brolans)and my brother Tommy who passed away I offer my sincere condolences to you , your children , Daves brother John and his mom.I am truly deeply sorry. When Candy met Dave she told us that he was 'Very Special' and when we met him, we knew that she was right. He was a man of many talents. He was the handiest of men, a top chef, 'our weather man', sportscaster and all around advisor.Best of all, he was a devoted husband to Candy, father to Rebekah and Jeff, Brother to John and son to Ginny.David always had and always will hold a 'Special' place in our hearts and he will be sorely missed in our family.Love from Mom (Lois)

My thoughts and prayers are with the Hafler family.I'd like to share a couple of my childhood memories I have of Dave.On Sunday afternoons, Dave would come over to our house and have spaghetti dinner with our family while my brother was serving in the Army. Even though it was widely known in the "neighborhood" that my mom couldn't cook, Dave actually said that he really liked my mom's spaghetti! Dave was like a surrogate brother to me when mine was away.I remember when Dave's cat had kittens, I asked my mom and dad if we could have one. They finally agreed and that cat lived 19 years! That was my 1st pet.And no memory would be complete without mentioning the wrestling matches between Dave and my dad in our livingroom. The look on my mom's face when they almost fell into her hutch on more than one occasion was.....priceless!Dave will always hold a special place in the hearts of the Fillinger Family.God Bless,Sue Fillinger-Wasilewski

To Candy, Bekah & Jeff, We will always remember the man you loved as one with a dry sense of humor and a slightly gruff manner which masked the heart of a big puppy dog!! He lives now via that which he imparted to you. He'll be with you at times when you least expect him to be. Cherish the happy memories. Love, The Rices

Though I met Dave only after he became ill, I was struck by his zest for life and his enjoyment of people. One of my favorite memories is from only a few weeks ago: I stopped by to say hi, and he and some friends were watching s ""sport"" on TV involving girls, bathing suits, log rolling, and lots of falls into the water. I teased him about his choice of program, and he came right back with his usual chattiness--not a trace of self-pity that he was tied to the sofa and the oxygen. He was a comfortable person to be with, and I'm sorry that our acquaintance was so short. My thoughts and prayers are with Candy, Rebekah, and Jeff--may you take comfort in knowing that many people are thinking of you and know that Dave is still watching over you. Love, Elizabeth

My Sincerest Sympathies to Candy, Rebekah, Jeff, and Mrs. Hafler and John. When I opened the paper this morning and saw David's picture I was shocked. My fondest memories are growing up in the old neighborhood, and the great neighbors we had there. I can still see Jeff's nose pressed against the back door waiting for Steven and Gwen to come out and play, when I would babysit for Vicky. David was a great guy, I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

When my Brother in Law was going to marry my sister Candy, Dave took the time to let me get to know him. We spent a whole day going to hobby shops together. He cared enough to let Candy's 'little brother' know that it would be ok for them to get married because he loved her. When it was time for me to get married, he was also my very protective Best Man. I didn't get to see him often enough, but it was always nice to know he was in my family. We will all miss you very much.Love,Adam, Stacia and MayaCandy, Rebekah, Jeff, Ginny and John, we love you and our hearts hurt with you too.
